The concept of product stewardship or the incorporation of product disposal into purchase price is one of the few extreme concepts I subscribe to. It is a concept that gets little are time by the unbleached organically grown, free range granola crunchers because it accepts the idea that there will always be products produced that are packaged, manufactured or contain man-made or non-renewable resources. The point of product stewardship is that it incorporates the recycling and/or disposal of the wastes created by a product into the original purchase price paid by you – the consumer. There are currently programs for recycling aerosols, oil, paint, tires and rechargeable batteries in existence or coming to your neighborhood in the very near future. All product stewardship requires is a little effort from you and everybody else to be effective; so get off your collective backside and participate.
